2006 ARRL RTTY Round-UpAlthough I finished second in the world behind Jacky in 2005 (and, broke the South American record), the head-on-head comparison clearly showed that there was a lot of improvement potential for P40X in this contest. Also, since the 2005 event had been so much fun, I looked forward to returning to see if he could do better. During his 2005 visit, Id passed the Aruba Amateur Radio exam and obtained a permanent visitor license. Several months later, I received the official license with the governor's signature and a new call sign, P49X. Jacky was not able to operate in 2006, so I had the country to myself. Propagation cooperated as did the ever increasing number of RTTY contesters. I worked diligently on improving my RTTY receive chain and consequently enjoyed 24 hours of averaging over 106 QSOs per hour. This was enough, after log checking, to eclipse the world record set by Jacky the year before by 19%. More details can be found in the April issue of the JUG (the NCCC monthly newsletter), the sidebar to the web report on the ARRL web site for the 2006 RTTY Round-Up, and also in the presentation given at Dayton on 20 May 2006:
