| Ed's first DX (non-US) contact in Ham radio was with Mako Takazawa,
JA1XS, in Yokohama Japan, in 1962. Mako's long and distinguished career
was with Sony Corporation and for a few years with their subsidiary
Akai.
Mako and his family (wife Kayoko, daughters Atsuko and Toko) have been close
friends ever since. On a couple of Ed's trips to Japan he stayed with the
Takazawas and operated Mako's station using the visitor call sign 7J1ACJ.
Japan and the US have a reciprocal licensing agreement that provides US citizens
with a valid US amateur radio license to acquire a visitor's license in Japan.
